Bare with me, it's been a lot of years. I went to my first 3 years of elementary school at the school that is now the cultural/offices center for the Fairlington apartments neighborhood. At the time, the west side of the property bordered Utah street. For the life of me I can't remember the name of that elementary school. It was probably Fairlington Elementary, which would make me feel stupid, but does anyone remember?? Thanks!

Polkat, I know there was a Fairlington Elementary located in Fairlington. My brother went there for a year or two.

That must be it then! Thanks. It was a cool little school. I got knocked out by a flying baseball bat during a game in third grade there. Kept me out so long I had to repeat the year. We had a janitor that reminded me years later of the evil janitor in one of Steven King's short stories. I have a lot of very old but fond memories of Fairlington.

That was definitely Fairlington Elementary. I went there for kindergarten, half of first grade and all of 2nd-6th. The main building is pretty old. I'm guessing it was made in the '40s along with the rest of Fairlington. Thre was an adition put on around '66 (give ro take a year I think). That was a new multipurpose room (gym/cafeteria). In the early '90s my daughter attended pre-school there and my wife was a teachers assistant in that class - in the same room in which I'd gone to kindergarten.

In North Fairlington is Abington Elementary. It was built in the early '60s. I guess at one point there were enough kids in Fairlington to warrant keeping both schools open. I guess by the '80s or so they didn't need both and started using Fairlington as a community center.
